Ringo's

Sometimes Ringo is lost in idle fancies. Misgiving about the future, distress for existence. Wrong faiths and right ways. And thinking about the world, me or them.

Do you have any religions?

My school Dongseo University is based on the Christianity. So we have to go to university church every Thursday. I don’t have religion. My parents believe Buddhism. But I can’t convince an existence of god. Is there anyone who sees the god or Heaven? How can they don’t have any doubts? I don’t hate Christians. But I saw a lot of Christians who commit crimes on the name of god. Also, history tells us cruel things what Christian did on the name of god. This tragedy is not only Christianity’s but also the other religions’. Today people are destroying the dignity of human and they are going mad. I don’t want to say dogmas or faiths. I have just care and sadness about poor world like the others. If I believe any gods, Can I really get the relief? What for?

Climbing Mountain

Today I climbed a mountain on John’s class. Hoo.. It was hard. I dislike sweating, walking, exercising. Usually I rarely exercise. When I climbed the mountain I was soon tired. Of course the forest was very good! On short break time, I felt and smelled fresh breezes, cool air cleaned my lungs deeply. And I heard birds and crickets. The sounds of Nature always make me happy and peaceful. I drank clean mineral water, it was good. I know climbing mountain is good to health but it is not easy to me. I will try it until I can like it!

Builders account for fifth of bankrupt firms

http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/archives/result_contents.asp?id=200609260044&query=builders%20account

Fifty building companies collapsed in August, covering 22 percent of the total, the largest share since 23.9 percent in April. The rising share of builders in bankruptcy shows that small- and midsized companies are having a harder time especially outside Seoul.

Nowadays Korean building companies has a hard time. Many companies are bankrupted and the rate is rising. According to this article, especially small and midsized companies have trouble to own their business. For a while, I wanted to be an architect. So this article attracted me. And my father has an independent enterprise, I am so worried.

Thinking about a part-time job

Yesterday, I wrote a part-time job. I want to work, too. I don’t deny that there are some problems to a part-time job. But when people become 20, they must prepare economic independence. Compared with foreign countries, Koreans don’t stand up for themselves until a late age. Of course, students cannot earn much money with a part-time job. But if they money easily from their parents, how can they provide for their future social lives?

Part-time job for university students

Have you ever had part-time job? These days many students are working on the job, especially university students. How do you think about it? Is it good or bad? There are several profits with part-time job. First of all, young people can learn the difficulty of earning money. Especially in Korea, parents are devoted to their children.
So they want to give everything to their sons daughters. Students have to know their parents’ labor. And though part-time job, students can experience various people and relationships. It will be helpful for their future careers. And they can learn skills, too.

But there are some weak points to a part-time job. University students have to have study hard. If they work hard on the job, they will be tired. So they can’t concentrate to their study. Moreover they will be taken away for a lot of the time on the job. If they get the lower grades, a part-time job is not good to students. Does this job surely help their careers?

Builders account for fifth of bankrupt firms

Variety, a U.S.-based entertainment news media, said it would publish a daily newsletter covering Korea's biggest film festival held in the southeastern coastal city of Busan this year. The Pusan International Film Festival, or PIFF, has grown at a rapid pace in recent years. Variety's decision to publish a daily during the festival (Oct. 12-20) marks the elevated stature of PIFF as one of the top film festivals in Asia because it releases dailies for three top film festivals only -- Cannes, Berlin and Toronto.

While I read this article, I was proud to my hometown Busan. PIFF became the most popular Asian Film Festival. Every year it is held very successfully. The PIFF plaza is in the Nampo-dong, at the festival season that place is so crowded. But I have not gone there so this year I will participate in this event. I hope the PIFF will be the first film festival.

Mew

There is a feeble voice moving my heart silently. The vocal Jonas Bjerre of the modern rock group 'Mew' sings with beautiful voice. This group comes from Denmark. They have four men for members. Their music is hard to explain. Just listen. Then, you will be fascinated by them. Their first album 'Frengers' is experimental and has much attractiveness. Among theirs, the song which I listened first was 'Snow Brigade.' Can you imagine snow brigade which try hard to protect his sweetheart? Its lyrics remind me some kind of a fairy tale. Their sentimental words and rhythms impress me deeply. When I walk on the street at late night listening Jonas's voice, I fly to the imaginary world. Do you know what I see in that place?

As I get my feet on the ground

Time is flying. Everyday goes fast. I am standing on this world and I am walking and working everyday. I am the center in my world but I am just a simple girl in the real world. If I don't try to do hard anything, I will be only an onlooker. Sometimes I feel boresome about everything and everyone, so I often dream that I go to an unknown place where nobody knows and hide from everything. But, I know. People who live on this earth, all want to do as like me. And I know too. My hope is just a poor excuse about my laziness. At times, people cry, regret, feel sad. Why not me? Why not them? Maybe life's like that. All my pains are destiny that I have to have because I am a thinkable being. Because I am I, I do not run away. I have to keep my feet on the ground even though it is infinite affliction.

My favorits, horror movies.

I like horror movies which have surprising reversals of the situation. So this movie, The Sixth Sense is still remain the masterpiece to me. In this film, there is the cute boy who has special ability. He can see ghosts. 'They' who are existing or not existing have a lot of secret reasons about their death. So they want to talk to their stories to the small boy. He can't say this fact to any other people even his mother. So he consult a doctor. Now, he learn dealing method about ghosts and hearing them. Of course appearing ugly ghosts without notice, was very fearful. But a climax of this film was the doctor's secret. It was just the reason why this movie achieved great success.
When I saw it, I was overwhelmed by distinguished acting of Haley Joel Osment. This small but clever boy, expressed suitable feelings for each situations and his pale face upgraded film's spooky mood.

紫雨林 ; the forest where purple rain falls.

I like music, especially rock. My favorite Korean musician is Jaurim(紫雨林). Jaurim means the forest where purple rain falls. They are composed of one woman vocal and three men. They released the first album 'Purple Heart' at 1997. So the next year is their 10th anniversary. Their music is dreamy and unique. Especially the vocal Kim Yuna has fantastic voice and great talent. Sometimes she sings extreme sorrow, and sometimes she criticizes social irregularities violently. I love her mind, thoughts and a view of the world. But their recent albums are can't impress me so much. I like their old albums more than recent theirs. Their music was changed. I don't like it. In this autumn, maybe they releas their 6th album. I'm looking forward to being moved by their music again.

Australia donates photos of old Korea

http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/archives/result_contents.asp?id=200609110044&query=australia

As a token of friendship between Australia and Korea, the Australia-Korea Foundation presented 30 pictures of Korea which was taken 100 years ago by George Ross to the National Institute of Korean History. George Rose traveled to Korea in 1904, during the Japanese-Russian war. The images were first shown to the public in 2002 as part of the Australia-Korea Foundation's 10th Anniversary Celebration Festival.

Because I am interested in Korean history, I choose this article. I think it is a good chance for students to understand Korean history. And we can learn foreigners point of views about Korea. I want to get an opportunity to see these pictures.

Blue Sky and Cosmos

This is the Autumn!

The autumn is coming. In the day time, at the night, cold wind blows. So I can't open the door during while I sleep. Only two weeks ago I was nearly dying because of steamy heat even at the night. But now I put on long pants. Cool and refreshing breezes are so good. There is a saying "The fall is a season of reading." I couldn't agree more! The sky is getting more deep blue, people become sentimental.

Winter is coming soon, so the autumn is more beloved.

I was in U.S.A._02

The Hope University's night picture that I took in my room.

This was a main walking course. I played on the bench with my friends.

When I went to USA, I studied at Hope International University and I lived in its dormitory. Hope University was small but its nightscape was so beautiful. Because California has desert climate, that place is cool at the night even in summer. I and my friends used to walk around the campus till late at night. There were many happenings in USA and we passed a night without sleep to talk about them.

When I came back to Korea, I missed Las Vegas, cheap shopping mall, tasty french fried but my best precious memory was a walking with friends. How can I forget that time? We laughed, cried and have a good time together. until recently, I think about then when I feel loneliness. On the bright night, I was happy.

And Rain

Why does rain mean gloom?

This week rain was fallen now and then. I like rain so much. Many people say that 'rainy day is so gloomy.' I do not deny it. Falling rain drops look like flowing tears. The sky is dark, sometimes a sound of dropping is sorrowful. Busy people who are walking on the road don't look each other, only rain fills empty spaces among them.

Rain is the source of the lives but it is the cause of sorrow to modern people.

Do you like 'SAW'?

SAW (2004)
Director : James Wan

In 2005, A surprising thriller movie was released in Korea. This was the 'Saw'. I saw this movie by video. Its opening is very gruesome. In the dirty and ruined toilet, two men who are tied by chains are lying without consciousness. Soon they get up and don't know why they are in that place. It is a game. A serial killer 'Jigsaw' suggests the cruel game one man. He has to kill another guy. If he doesn't do that, of course both of them, his family will be died. He doesn't know where he is, who is 'Jigsaw' and how he can escape from the dirty toilet. He has only a saw. What the hell can he do?

while I saw this movie, I felt mental pain throughout. The movie's screen is tough and harsh, finally one man take an extreme measure. Many critics blamed that this film was boring and incomplete. But I viewed it interestingly. Especially, the reverse of the last was so exciting. In this year, 'Saw 2' was released and I watched it. It was pretty good, and I will see 'Saw 3' too. If you enjoy thrill and fear, how about watching this movie?

I was in U.S.A._01

In the Mohave Desert

On July, 2006, I was running across the Mohave Desert on the bus. For going to the Grand Canyon, we were on that hot and dry place. On the way to the Arizona State, we got off a bus and walked on the burning sands. 'Where ever can I come a desert again?' It was a desert but it was not a so barren place. There were some trees. Moreover when we were in the bus, rain was fallen. A guide said that rain of desert is blessing. We were very lucky guys. We saw a singular phenomenon as like desert rain two or three times a day. Rain drops which were flowing on the bus windows had special beauty.

The rain of desert

My Favorite, 椎名林檎

My English nickname is Ringo. Many people ask to me, "Did you made your name after Ringo Star?." No. I got my name from 椎名林檎(Shena Ringo) who is famous Japanese singer-songwriter. She is very talented musician. There are many singers who have good voice and beautiful appearance. But Like as she, outstanding artists who write own lyrics, make music, arrange, even make movie are rare especially in Korea.

When I was 14 years old, I heard Ringo's music first. Her voice was unique and very attractive. I fell in love with her music in a moment. At that time Japanese albums were hard to buy in Korea differently these days. There were no licensed Japanese albums in Korean record shop so I had to find another way to get Ringo's album on the internet. It paid for a lot of money. Albums that were imported directly from Japan cost three times than Korean record. I was young and I didn't have enough money, but her music deserved to buy. Her music is little bit strange at first. Sometimes she screams, growls, and screeches. She expressed her thought and feeling wildly on her music videos or concerts. So someone calls her psycho. However I love her that strange aspects. It is her own attractions.

She released 11 singles and 3 albums since 1998. And she declared quit of her solo activities at 2004. Since then she organized the group 東京事變(Tokyo Jihen-it means a Tokyo accident) that she plays of vocal. I miss her unique music but I can listen still her voice, I am happy. Maybe I will love her until she stops her music.
